Internal mobility is a tool traditionally used in HRM career management employees of large French companies. This article outlines the progress of a doctoral research questioning the ability of intra organizational mobility to develop employees' talents. From a qualitative research conducted among 37 executives working in 5 large French companies, the research shows the existence of four meanings for mobility among executives. It also highlights the potential of internal mobility, despite many obstacles, to enhance employees' motivations and support learning practices according to these different meanings. This research concludes on the assumption that internal mobility ultimately reflects the employment relationship.
