Beschreibungen/Notizen
The international market for blues music is reflected by the numerous works the authors cite that have been translated into several languages, such as Italian, German, or French-for example, The Devil's Music (no. 4) and Savannah Syncopators (no. 6). Elsewhere, Komara and Johnson illustrate relationships to church and gospel music (no. 39), blues related to war (no. 69), prostitution (no. 38), and the influence of Jim Crow laws upon African Americans and gambling (no. 50). In reviewing Albert Murray's Stomping the Blues (no. 23, p. 69), Greg Johnson ens our of the origin of the word blues, from a sixteenth-century expression "blue devils," and of the influence of blues upon jazz (the lens Murray uses).
