  • During the postwar period since the New Wave (1945-1958), popular weeklies propose several stars classifications depending more or less to the box office. For an actor, "I am on the box office, therefore I exist" is not necessarily the rule. The public made actors famous, or can throw them into oblivion, but that success is not necessarily, or not only made by the box office. Popular magazines should also be taken into account. Actors play several roles: audiences loved them for their image, for what they embody beyond the screen, and for what they play. Indeed, it will not be unusual to see in Cinémonde clashes between the taste of readers, while at least partly expressed in the letters to the editor section "Potinons" and taste of the editors, which biases are reflected in the sections "Tout Cinémonde" and "celebrity matches"; it draws a panorama of popular tastes, mainly for quality cinema. This article will therefore endeavor to identify the criteria of these rankings.
