• The article focuses on a group of largely ignored textual sources: sermons preached at the dedication of a new organ (Orgelpredigt). The development of this genre began within the framework of the „reformation of ritual“ during the first half of the seventeenth century and flourished up to 1800, mainly in Lutheran Germany, where nearly ninety prints have been found. Offshoots extended into England and the Netherlands, while an independent Catholic tradition arose during the Third Republic in France. The author advocates a systematic indexing of these sermons, as they would deepen the contextual perspective for sacred music debates of that era—especially with respect to the reception of Praetorius—and contribute to a better understanding of the transfer of musical knowledge through theological networks in early modern society.
