• Patient-care equipment in the healthcare setting is increasing in both number and complexity. Without proper disinfection, equipment surfaces can harbor pathogenic organisms resulting in healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). During the first half of 2013, 47% of hospitals surveyed by The Joint Commission were cited for failing to reduce the risk of infections associated with medical equipment, devices, and supplies. Multiple documented outbreaks have been linked to contaminated patient-care equipment.
