The authors' findings suggest that lung natural helper cells in partnership with lung epithelium are critical for a rapid innate response in the lung to protease allergens, such as house dust mite.We asked senior author Fumio Takei, from the University of British Columbia, to tell us about the significance of this study: "Natural helper cells have been found in mucosal tissues and are thought to play a critical role in immune response to helminth and influenza virus infection.
