Muhawi proposes the notion that folktale translatability between divergent cultures rests on the fact that the genre itself is shared between them. He proposes to go beyond the scope of the earlier inquiry by exploring the more inclusive category of the canon from the standpoint of translation, with special reference to the Arabic folk narrative tradition. Such a vantage point allows a novel outlook on the canon as a critical practice from the perspective of comparative cultural analysis. Their initial hypothesis is that translation into English endows the Arabic folktale with a canonical status it does not have in its native tongue.
