Beschreibungen/Notizen
Both films interpellate their prospective audience, first as victims - the cultured middle-class family in Funny Games, the gang of youthful stereotypes in The Cabin in the Woods - and then as participants in the characters' misery (recall, for instance, the rewinding scene in Funny Games, and note The Cabin in the Woods' panoply of reality television-style digital screens). Visually this is transformed into a series of optical frames - windows, two-way mirrors, CCTV, plate glass. [...]in Angel there is the infernal law firm, Wolfram and Hart, in Dollhouse Rossum Industries, and in Firefly the Alliance, a corporatised interstellar government. Cognitive mapping, the ability to imagine our relationship to this sublime network and its relation with world capital, collapses into global conspiracy.
