This work discusses the key role played by the Interactive Geometry Software (IGS), in the process of teaching and learning geometry with computational support. The authors have presented the important benefits of IGS for teachers and students. On the one hand, it helps the teacher in his task of creating more interactive teaching materials and develop activities that stimulate curiosity. On the other hand, it provides students with an environment in which the active behavior and the pursuit of challenges promote the acquisition of experiences and the maturity that will lead them to understand the geometrical content. In this context, the authors have presented the results of didactic activities using a IGS, referred to as iGeom, in undergraduate courses for pre-service math teachers. They also discuss how geometric constructions can be seem as algorithms and how it is possible to implement automatic recursive algorithms on iGeom facilitating the introduction of mathematical concepts such as geometric progressions, series, convergence, among others.
