• Understandably, he falls short of prescribing a set of solutions for a problem that originates in intractable oppositions between long-term developments, which in themselves are neither decidedly good, nor decidedly evil. Because of this ambivalence, the signicance of Rudolf Euckens diagnose of a spiritual crisis of the West for a social thinker such as his son (or, for that matter, for social science in general) is not immediately apparent.
