• While stroke prevention has made significant strides over the last decade, physicians need to be aggressive in early intervention to reverse the natural history of acute stroke. The emerging field of acute stroke therapy requires multidisciplinary-team research to determine which patients benefit most from early intervention with the least risk. The authors bring to light the options and criteria that are relevant today and stress the importance of multimodal imaging-based criteria for optimizing patient selection for early intervention.
