The publication of the Standards for Foreign Language Learning is an important step in the history of the profession. These guidelines for learning and teaching the emphasize the role of foreign languages in the acquisition of skills and knowledge in other fields of endeavor. The author proposes activities involving the World Wide Web that reflect the emphasis in the Standards on learning about other cultures and the necessity for becoming a life-long learner. He proposes learning scenarios at the three grade levels for six standards covering all five Cs (communication, comparisons, cultures, connections, communities) using French as the target language.
