There are two German institutions today seriously concerned with library history-in Cologne, the University of Librarianship and Documentation as well as the Chair of Library Science at the University of Cologne; in Wolfenbüttel, the Round Table on Library History affiliated with the Duke August Library. For them, the achievements in library history research are characterized under general and methodological aspects. Single research results are mentioned and a selection of important examples in various fields of library history is given listing the completed research projects.
