• FDA is providing new recommendations regarding the coadministration of statins and protease inhibitors commonly used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or hepatitis C. According to FDA's Drug Safety Communication released March 1, 2012, "Protease inhibitors and statins taken together may raise the blood levels of statins and increase the risk for muscle injury (myopathy).
