Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • Many critics have called him the most significant living novelist in the United States, and if results of Google searches and database research are any indication, then those critics are far from being hyperbolic and have accurately pinpointed the current cultural/literary moment. Many previous critics have highlighted the post-structuralist or desconstructive aspects of this novel-a simple perusal of the Roth Society's online bibliography, http://rothsociety.org/resources/research, will bear this out-and Newlin's analysis is no different. While the essays in this issue of Philip Roth Studies demonstrate the variety of approaches in reading Roth, both the book review section-with reviews of texts ranging from Roth and trauma, to narratives of mourning, to postmodern masculinity, to transnational liberalism-and the extensive annual bibliography that follows underscore the sheer volume and diversity of Roth-related writings over the past two years.
