One of the most important factors affecting sustainable management of ecosystems is maintenance of soil quality. Hence, knowing the spatial distribution of soil properties can be so useful. Geostatistic is one of the valuable techniques in estimation of spatial distribution of soil properties. Several interpolation and prediction methods including Inverse Distance Weights (IDW), kriging, cokriging, fuzzy kriging and regression kriging have been proposed yet. Each mentioned method can predict one of the soil properties with more accuracy. Therefore, the main objectives of this research are to evaluate, recognize and introduce the best interpolation methods for prediction of Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) in soils of of Guilan province of northern Iran. Results showed that the hybrid methods including fuzzy kriging and regression kriging reduced the error of prediction compared with the other methods. In addition between these two mentioned methods, the fuzzy kriging had more efficiency in prediction of CEC. The results also revealed that increasing the number of data by means of the best pedotransfer functions (created by ANFIS) will enhance the accuracy of prediction. In general combination of the best pedotransfer functions with the best mapping method increased the accuracy of CEC prediction in the study area. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
