Non-domestic animals that are kept in captivity can live in our homes or in public settings such as zoos and aquariums. Humans that live with non-domestic animals may have a human-animal relationship similar to that which occurs with pet dogs or cats. Animals in zoo or aquariums will have relationships with their caretakers, as well as those in the public that visit them. Keeping non-domestic animals in captivity can have legal, ethical, and conservation implications. Each of these relationships is unique and can have both positive and negative aspects. The interactions between humans and non-domestic animals in captive settings will be discussed in this chapter.
