In 1996, the international community (IC) got engaged in creating and managing the media in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Those media were donor-run projects, without business or sustainability plans, run by foreigners, and it was not clear how long these projects were supposed to exist. Yet, it was clear that these media will be tasked with propagating the peace agreement and the ideas of the IC in the country. The media were created by different international organisations, including NATO and the UN, but this chapter focuses on the media created by bodies that were responsible for the implementation of the civilian aspect of the peace agreement. Looking at the development of these media projects, this chapter analyses their overall impact on the media scene in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), while asking questions about the lessons learned and whether they can be applied in other similar circumstances.
