Beschreibungen/Notizen
The Ancient Greek tragedy The Oresteia by Aeschylus was described by Gilbert Murray as an attempt to think out the problem of 'Sin, Punishment and Forgiveness'. This prompted Melanie Klein to write a paper on The Oresteia in the closing days of her analytic career. The psychological issues raised by the plays are explored in this chapter including the proposition that the only stop to vengeful, 'blood for blood' book-keeping is forgiveness. This is discussed in the language of the 'Ancient world' as ancestral ghosts demanding space in the minds of their offspring and in the psychoanalytic language of today.
