Cyber-physical systems are interconnected devices and networks, which use computational and communications technologies deeply integrated in physical devices, systems and processes. In this regard, they add new characteristics and capabilities to the physical devices, systems and processes. Against this background, cyber-physical systems have received a great attention in all industries, public and private sectors, which will fundamentally changing operational business approaches in all sectors due to their unprecedented application possibilities through wireless connection and communication technologies. However, there is also a negative impact due to the emergence of cybersecurity risks through threat events executed by cyber-attackers with their cybercriminal attack repertoire that emerged fast. Given this fact, the objective of this chapter is to introduce into cybersecurity methods, based on which an application demonstration, into an intrusion detection and prevention system architecture, is given. To identify the efficiency and effectiveness of the chosen cybersecurity approach, the cybersecurity maturity model is used to determine the cybersecurity maturity level in cyber-physical system applications.
