  • To explore the ecosystem of human capital in Malaysia, we start with an overview of the economy and industry sectors. With geographic proximity between China and India, Malaysia's ports are positioned well to support the growing manufacturing and agricultural sectors. Since national policies heavily influence the priorities of a nation, we examine the education system and government orientation towards human capital development. While there are bright spots in the Malaysia education system, the ethnic and political differences have not helped even the access and attainment of higher education levels across the country. The good infrastructure and access to services has improved the quality of life in most of the country. The population demographics and employment directly influence the availability of human capital in a country. With a large bilingual workforce and growing service sector, Malaysia is positioned for future growth. Considering the human capital ecosystem in Malaysia, we conclude with several implications for business leaders including the ongoing brain drain of the well educated to overseas locations, strong natural resources, generally good education of labour, and ongoing ethnic conflicts.
