• To understand the ecosystem of human capital in the Philippines, we start with an overview of the economy and industry sectors in the country. The rapid rise as a service provider of off-shore services and support provided needed growth and a drive towards tech skills. Since national policies heavily influence the priorities of a nation, we examine the education system and government orientation towards human capital development. The development of human capital has been a challenge for the country due to the geographic diversity coupled with failed policy attempts. Access to healthcare and the quality of life for people in the country can influence the availability and strength of the human capital system. In the case of the Philippines, access to healthcare, education, and infrastructure has been a difficulty. The population demographics and employment directly influence the availability of human capital in the Philippines, which has a relatively young population. Considering the human capital ecosystem in the Philippines, we conclude with several implications for business leaders including the limited levels of formal education, availability of unskilled labour, natural resources, and promise of pro-business policies.
