• New translation forms have emerged over the last decades because of ongoing technological evolution. They raise new questions and pose unprecedented challenges for translators, calling for the creation of new professional profiles. This chapter will introduce a number of these domains, demonstrating some of the technicalities that translators must be familiar with in each of these areas. The fields in question include wiretap interpreting, software localization, website localization, screen translation, etc. New translation forms have emerged because of ongoing technological evolution. They raise new questions and pose unprecedented challenges for translators, calling for the creation of new professional profiles. This chapter presents some of these new modes of translation, focusing on the extra-linguistic issues associated with them. Translation has proved to have a great deal of economic and social benefits. The chapter addresses some matters relating to wiretap interpreting, and the sheds some light on the area of website localization. It introduces some aspects of software localization. The chapter then examines two modes of screen translation, viz. subtitling and dubbing. Wiretap interpreting can be defined as the rendering of the content of telephone conversations intercepted by authorities from one language into another. According to Singh website localization can be defined as the adaptation of websites to conform to the “linguistic, cultural, technical, functional, legal, and other locale-specific requirements of the target market”.
