  • Lung problems and breathing symptoms are extremely common in the United States population. Asthma is very common in the U.S. population and a variety of preventative measures as well as effective treatments are available. In any given year, 5–20% of persons in the United States are infected with influenza and up to 56,000 people die each year as a result of influenza. Indoor air quality can cause a variety of adverse health consequences and should be assessed with a careful history. The COVID-19 virus infects many organs, but lung infections are particularly common and often fatal. Lung problems are very common in the health care system. Shortness of breath, cough, and wheezing are among the most common symptoms experienced by patients seeking medical care. With regard to respiratory symptoms, a comprehensive and insightful history is an important starting point which can help clinicians narrow down possible lung issues that underlie symptoms. Dyspnea or breathlessness may be experienced in a variety of circumstances or may be experienced by healthy individuals when exercising to the limits of their aerobic capacity or it can represent either primary pulmonary disease or cardiovascular disease (CVD). Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways characterized by intermittent symptoms, including chest congestion, cough, and wheezing. A variety of occupational and environmental lung diseases have occurred that are of significant concern. Venous Thromboembolic Disease (VTE) disease is a form of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).
