• With the election of Donald Trump to the presidency in November 2016, the border is in the spotlight again as the United States examines its relationship with Mexico. With his executive order issued in January 2017, President Trump promised to “construct a physical wall along the southern border, using appropriate materials and technology to most effectively achieve complete operational control of the southern border” (Trump 2017).
