This chapter captures different socio-economic and demographic characteristics of migrant and non-migrant households in rural Garhwal. It reports on reproductive age levels, income levels, education, standards of living, wealth index, etc. At the household level, the study has found significant differences in terms of various socio-economic parameters. The wealth index reveals that those households with out-migrant husbands benefit from higher household economies and thus better standards of living when compared to households with non-migrant husbands. At the individual level, this study also discovered significant differences between out-migrant husbands and non-migrant husbands in terms of age, level of educational attainment and income. Even in the case of wives, significant differences are found between wives of out-migrants and those of the non-migrants concerning the same parameters.
