• Internal quality control characteristics and definition are presented. The role and the place of IQC in QA/QC system is described. The basic tools used for IQC are characterized with a focus on control charts. The most commonly used control charts are described and ways of preparing and utilizing the data for the Shewhart chart with an examples of calculations are included. Internal quality control (IQC) is extremely important to ensure that the data released from the lab are fit for purpose. Quality control (QC) methods are enabled to monitor the quality of the data produced by the laboratory on a run-by-run basis. This chapter describes the role and the place of IQC in quality assurance (QA)/QC system. It characterizes the basic tools used for IQC and focuses on the control charts. The chapter describes the ways of preparing and utilizing the data for the Shewhart chart. Quality in the laboratory can be controlled on the two levels: internally and externally. Control charts are used to test the stability of research results conducted in a given laboratory. In practice, the most frequently used charts are Shewhart charts. This method of monitoring and regulating processes is a graphic procedure minimizing the number of necessary numerical operations and allowing systematic monitoring of the course of the process being subjected to control.
