• When engaging with the question of ‘moral engines’ or ‘moral drives’ in human life, the first task is to rethink ethics and responsibility in light of the human condition, as a feature of human life, approached phenomenologically so as to remain faithful to its constitution. It will appear that responsibility, once reengaged phenomenologically, is to be taken as responsiveness to a call, rather than as the traditional accountability of the willful and powerful subject or agent.
