• The line for the restroom snaked out the door and down the hallway. More than 50 of us, all women but two, had been sitting in Plusmore Home Care’s training room for nearly three hours. It was the first day of a weeklong training for new home care workers. We had been slowly draining jumbo coffee cups and soda bottles brought from home as Alicia Morgan, Plusmore’s head trainer, made her way through the tedious business of getting us organized. In the bathroom line, women talked and chatted, making friends and comparing notes. “How’d you find out about this job?”
