  • This case study demonstrates the effectiveness of both electrocoagulation and ozonation procedures for the remediation of cold rolling mill (CRM) wastewater from the Tata Steel Industry in India, which has iron, phenol, BOD, COD, and oil content. To determine its impact on the degradation efficacy, the operational factors of the two procedures-current density (electrocoagulation), ozone formation rate (ozonation), and treatment period-were addressed. The amount of pollutant content could be reduced to below the corresponding discharge limits with the help of ideal experimental conditions of 200 A/m2 (current density), 1.12 mg/s (ozone production rate), and 30 min (treatment period). However, it was shown that the independent electrocoagulation process outperformed ozonation in terms of economy and the effectiveness of pollutant elimination for the intended effluent. Additionally, it was discovered that the ozonation procedure was nearly six times more expensive than electrocoagulation. When compared to other methods described in the literature, the efficiency and operational costs for both solo processes were found to be satisfactory.
