• Steel manufacturing is a complicated process. Various procedures are required to manufacture steel material, resulting in a large volume of waste. All types of production generates waste, which has relatively little economic value for the initial production process; nevertheless, waste goods have some financial worth that can be raised through processing. This chapter provides an overview of waste generation in the iron and steel industry. Various unit operations, their classifications, and the waste types generated have been discussed. Furthermore, the composition and characteristics of wastes from various units of the steel industry have been thoroughly explored. The research opportunities and socio-techno aspects are also elaborated in detail.
