Bucer’s efforts to strive for ecclesiastical unity do not contradict his insistence on dogmatic assertions in matters of faith. Bucer was convinced that the «papists » excluded themselves theologically, just like the Anabaptists and the Spiritualists, since they split off from the foundations of the Church of Jesus Christ. According to Bucer in the Reformation camp there was a consensus about the central articles of faith, in spite of the theological differences. He was convinced that the partisans of the traditional faith would finally be won over to the true doctrine, provided that their efforts to work out reforms are supported.
