Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • In the present study, TiO2 prepared by an acid-catalyzed sol-gel method was combined with several materials including, activated carbon (AC), activated carbon fibber (ACF), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT), MCM-41, MCM-48 and zeolite Na-Y. The preparation technique was developed in a way that parameters such as homogeneity, purity, microstructure and sintering temperature, could be fine tuned to produce the desired final composite. Material characterization was performed using thermogravimetric analysis, N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm measurements, X-Ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, diffuse reflectance infrared and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The photocatalytic degradation of phenol was chosen as a model reaction to evaluate the photocatalytic activities of the composite catalysts under ultraviolet radiation (253.7 nm). A synergetic effect is observed for the carbon-TiO2 composite catalysts leading to efficient phenol conversion and TOC abatement in the photocatalytic process.
