In this paper, an analytic model for analyzing similar rectangular guide filled with arbitrarily-shaped inhomogeneous dielectric by using the method of lines is presented, and characteristic equations of different mode are obtained. Rectangular guide partially filled with 1-D inhomogeneous
dielectric slab is exemplified, its dispersion and cut-off characteristics are numerically calculated and analyzed, and the correctness of the analytic model is demonstrated as well. The analytic method in this paper has virtues such as easy formulation, less computation and so on, and it
