  • Objectives: Palmar hyperhidrosis is a common dysfunctional disorder. Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) was the most popular treatment method. However, until now there have been few, if any, new improvements to this technique. Patients have to undergo general anaesthesia with intubation and relatively traumatic surgery. In this study, we present a new alternative to the conventional surgical method. Methods: We performed ETS with flexional medical thoracoscopy under intravenous anaesthesia without intubation in 13 patients. All the patients were followed up until the time of submission of this Abstract. Results: During surgery, no patients required intubation, and the vital signs of all patients remained stable. The total operative times ranged between 30 and 40 min. The patients reported no pain during surgery and regained consciousness rapidly following surgery. The symptom of palmar hyperhidrosis disappeared as soon as the sympathetic chain was cut. All patients left the hospital on the second postoperative day. The hospital cost was half that of the conventional technique. Conclusions: ETS with flexional medical thoracoscopy under intravenous anaesthesia without intubation is a safe and effective method. It could become popular clinically.
