Kaiserswerth als Erinnerungsort der Frauendiakonie - Ein Beispiel für die Dynamik des Kollektiven Gedächtnisses und die Fluktuation in Erinnerungsorten
This article presents the Kaiserwerther Women's Deaconry as an example of the dynamics of collective remembrance. Significant memorial grounds -among others the Kaiserwerther Taube (Kaiserwarther Dove), the Gartenhäuschen (Summer House) - the cradle of the deaconry, and the graves of the founders of the movement -have been reconstructed within the 20th century and the myths which they originally yielded have been reinterpreted. Even though the motherhouse of the deaconry no longer exists today, the various presentations of these other memorial sites show that these places of remembrance retain their relevance and stand their ground. This relevance is underlined by the Oral-History-Project held at the Kaiserwerther Deaconry, where over 40 so-called after-work-deaconesses were interviewed between 2001 and 2004. In such a way has the importance of this Protestant sisterhood been recognised for the first time by Protestant church history at large.
