• El impacto de la obra de Eugen Weber en la historiografía francesa no fue instantáneo sino progresivo. La historiografía francesa contemporánea a sus grandes obras sobre la III República, de orientación social y estructural, influida por la escuela de los Annales y la nueva historiografía marxista, no pudo asimilar la dimensión culturalista y el recurso a una narrativa desmitificadora, dominada por el detalle y la anécdota, que caracterizaron la obra de este historiador norteamericano. Este artículo muestra cómo la incidencia de su obra en la historiografía francesa fue muy posterior al tiempo en que ésta fue elaborada y publicada. Tuvo lugar únicamente en los años 90, cuando la nueva historia política y cultural preparó a los historiadores franceses para asimilar y valorar unos trabajos que se habían adelantado, en su metodología e inquietudes teóricas, al tiempo en que fueron elaborados. The impact of Eugen Weber's work on French historiography was not something immediate but a gradual matter. French historiography contemporary to his great works on the 3rd Republic, with its social and structural approach, influenced by the Annales school and the new Marxist historiography, could not assimilate the culturalist dimension and the use of a demystifying narrative, dominated by detail and anecdote, which characterised the work of this North American historian. This article shows how the effect of his work on French historiography only sank in long after the time when it was written and published. This took place only in the nineties, when the new political and cultural history prepared French historians to assimilate and value works that had, in their theoretical concerns and methodology, outstripped the thinking of the age when they were written.
