The author shows that systematic aspects are to be found not only in Adolf von Harnack's historical writings but above all in his famous lectures on the essence of Christianity. These lectures provide a new conceptual and historiographical approach to the Christian religion. The author concludes by drawing attention to the significance of Harnack's works for current systematic theology.
