• The persistence of brutal violence since the year 2000 in Thailand’s southern, predominantly Muslim, border provinces has resulted in ever more deaths and has led to militarization, harassment, human rights violations, ethnic cleansing and rising numbers of refugees.¹ Relations between Buddhists and Muslims seem to be, at least in the media, characterized by deep hatred.
