• Question: Using the square lattice, how many symmetry types are possible? As we move to create 4-fold symmetry, we might think of pinwheels, Greek and Maltese crosses, certain flowers (the familycruciferea), and, alas, the swastika. The swastika served as a lovely element of Hindu and Native American art for centuries until it was spoiled in the 1900s.
