• “What’s a simpler word for paristhiti? [circumstances],” asks Deepa, a dubbing director at Mumbai’s Synchron Sounds, during the dubbing of a 20th  Century Studios film into Hindi. Her colleague, Parul, answers, “Paristhiti is simple. It is colloquial.
