- I want to think about the prison abuses committed in Abu Ghraib during the U.S. military counter-insurgency in the Iraq War of 2003 to 2005 within the framework of ordinary ethics.¹ In some ways this is easier said than done, not least because there was hardly anything “ordinary” about what is alleged to have transpired behind the walls of Abu Ghraib.
