• Of all of the biblical concepts available to relate to contemporary politics, “covenant” may seem an unlikely choice. Aside from biblical scholars, does anyone use the word anymore in everyday speech? Deeming the question worthy at least of cursory investigation, I scanned several newspapers and weekly periodicals and listened to The News Hour with Jim Lehrer. Negative results confirmed my suspicion.
