• Of course, the publicity generated by the development of the renewed Basking Shark prewar hunt in Scotland would not have gone unnoticed by people engaged in fisheries in Ireland. The Carradale incident and Anthony Watkins’s new venture attracted considerable interest from the press, and would have certainly spurred memories in the old hunting grounds amongst people who had recently seen a traditional sun-fish hunt re-enacted on the screen in Robert Flaherty’s film Man of Aran. But the impetus to recommence the Basking Shark hunt in Ireland didn’t appear there, but farther north at another historic hunting site: Achill Island on
