• Near the end of the anonymous play Arden of Faversham (1592), Alice and her lover Mosby have finally managed to kill Thomas Arden, Alice’s husband, with the help of two hired murderers, Black Will and Shakebag. Although a number of seemingly chance occurrences suggest that providence will ensure that the guilty will be caught, it is only at the moment that Alice is made to confront her husband’s body that she admits to her part in the crime.
