In this study, the elements including Fe, Mg, Al, Ca, Ti and so on were detected with laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) in the ordinary ash. In order to simulate the ash containing Mn, ordinary ash was separately mixed with the solutions of different Mn concentrations before being dried. Six characteristic peaks of Mn (257.62 nm, 259.38 nm, 260.65 nm, 403.01 nm, 403.24 nm and 403.35 nm) in the spectra were determined. By calculating the plasma temperature and electron number density, a local thermal equilibrium state is verified. The internal standard calibration method was applied for the quantitative analysis of Mn by taking Al (309.28 nm) as the reference spectral line. Moreover, the detection limit of Mn in the ash with LIBS is 25.8 × 10−6 by calculation.
