• Recently ANDERSEN-VINILANDICUS (Strasbourg) put an end to the wide-ranging discussion about Hartmann's alleged origin and benefactors: he removed the poet's biographic existence and interpreted his name as pseudonym of Holy Roman Emperor Henry VI. By contrast, in this paper I will follow Hartmann's traces using the methods of regional and local history. Crucial point is localising him in Inner Swabian Obernau (Rottenburg), thus linking Hartmann with the Counts of Hohenberg, who were affiliated with the Hohenstaufen. The Counts of Hohenberg maintained regular contact with Henry VI and the bearers of chivalric and courtly culture.
