Beschreibungen/Notizen
This chapter describes the process of integrative planning based on the case study of the transformation of the Berlin TXL airport. It focuses on the conversion of the Terminal A building, which will move from aviation use to that of a higher education facility. The chapter also focuses on splitting its departments across two sites – the existing campus in Berlin-Wedding and the new site in Berlin-Tegel. It provides outstanding prerequisites for the highly diverse space schedule of the departments with their specific curricula, research activities, and their need for flexibility and future adaptability. Ecological sustainability refers to such aspects as the use of regenerative energy, space requirements, energy efficiency, and the type of building materials that are envisioned to be used. Technically challenging building projects require a large amount of interdisciplinary communication and collaboration, and constitute a paradigm change to integrative planning.
