• This chapter investigates New Adult literature featuring characters who are in college, as they establish new relationships with roommates, peers, and professors, as well as with new knowledge; explore options for majors and possible careers; think about themselves, their values, and the world on new levels; and head toward yet another level of adulthood. Books can help readers ponder questions about their own goals values, identities, and hopes. A text set offers books with varying perspectives on taking a gap year. Another includes nonfiction selections about how to negotiate the financial, emotional, academic, and social aspects of college, along with memoirs of college experiences. Book talks offer librarians and teachers serving in a Readers' Advisory role ideas for matching readers with relevant texts. Writing and thinking prompts provide further ways to promote deep reflection among students. Instructional strategies include the use of online reading conversation journals; and methods of arts integration that can enhance the reading and responding experience. Walk-throughs provide modelling to demonstrate the activities in action.
