  • This chapter discusses that success begins not with learning to study or how to take tests or ways to manage reader's time. We’ll get to those topics, but we must first start at the beginning, which is reader's mindset—specifically with developing a growth mindset and rejecting a fixed mindset. The terms “growth mindset” and “fixed mindset” were developed by Dr. Carol Dweck of Stanford University. She spent decades studying thousands of students, from kindergarten through graduate school, to discover why some students succeed and others do not. This switch is indeed good news since our society tends to encourage reader to have a fixed mindset, which is why so many of reader probably do begin college with a fixed mindset. Since this is the case, let’s begin there, with the fixed mindset, so we can understand how this mindset works and the ways we see the world through its lens.
